Aims & Objectives
“Skills are a key part of our plan for economic recovery and, as such, an urgent challenge. The country’s future can only be built by educated, enterprising people with the right skills; the skills demanded by modern work in a globalised economy.”
Lord Mandelson, Skills for Growth Strategy, November 2009
Capita’s National Skills and Apprenticeships Conference follows the recent publication of the Skills for Growth Strategy and the introduction of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act. It gives delegates in depth advice and guidance on delivering a skills system that responds to the demands of today’s job market and is equipped to help drive economic growth going forward.
Opening with a unique opportunity to hear from the three main political parties, this conference provides delegates with insight into their future plans for overhauling the skills system in the UK.
Other core issues to be addressed at the conference include:
• Benefits of a simplified skills system
• Implications of the funding transfer for post-16 learning and skills
• Ensuring the supply of skills matches demand in the local area
• Engaging employers in the skills and apprenticeships agenda
• Empowering adult learners to equip themselves for future jobs
Bringing together key stakeholders and expert practitioners, this conference offers delegates practical examples to improve and expand skills provision in their own areas.
Benefits of Attending
• Take the opportunity to hear from and question key policy makers involved with implementing the national skills agenda
• Benefit from an overview of changes to the delivery of 16-19 provision and clarification of the roles and responsibilities of the newly established SFA and YPLA
• Explore plans for expanding the Advanced Apprenticeship Programme to tackle the gap in intermediate skills
• Gain advice and practical guidance on engaging employers to drive and shape provision which offers a high level of vocational experience and qualifications that deliver real value
• Hear a timely case study emphasising the importance of increased partnership working with employer-led bodies to identify skills growth areas for the future
• Identify strategies for improving delivery of skills provision to adult learners and those people already in work
