Emergency Planning Conference - Disaster Recovery and Response
Thursday 11th September 2008 – Copthorne Tara Hotel, Scarsdale Place, Kensington, London, W8 5SR
Aims and Objectives

“Waiting for another serious event is a dangerous ‘strategy of luck’; we need to act now to protect our future”
Sir Michael Pitt, Pitt Review, June 2008

The UK will inevitably experience flooding of the kind seen in 2007 more frequently. This, and ongoing high profile risks including avian influenza and a possible human flu pandemic, make it crucial that we have robust civil contingency arrangements in place.

Capita’s 9th Bi-Annual Emergency Planning Conference will provide the wide range of organisations with a part to play in this agenda with a comprehensive picture of:

  • Legislation and guidance
  • Training
  • Multi-agency planning frameworks and procedures
  • National and local decision-making structures
  • Scrutiny, accountability and monitoring progress

Attend to get the knowledge and perspective required to understand your developing role, hear and discuss how to apply lessons learnt for better performance. See a step change improvement in your capacity to handle incidents when they occur.

Benefits of attending
  • Get an update on Government policy, strategy and National Operational Standards for disaster recovery and response
  • Learn how to apply learning from case studies to improve your own response
  • Hear about and discuss the outcomes of the Pitt Review into flooding in 2007
  • Explore how to work better with utility companies, Government bodies and agencies
  • Look at Mass Evacuation Planning logistics, hear about the London plan in detail
  • Hear more about Humanitarian Assistance Centres and caring for vulnerable groups
  • Consider the availability, standard and value of emergency planning training including Project ‘Gold Standard’
  • Develop your multi-agency planning protocols for best practice decision-making during an incident
  • Consider the role of defence in UK resilience, and the roles and responsibilities of other bodies
